AN XVI TATOO ON THE WRIST - SIXTEEN.
THEY SAY THEY'RE THERE FOR PROTECTION.
Wieder eine Dystopie, diesmal in einer Welt, in der Werbung eine extrem wichtige Rolle spielt. Mädchen bekommen mit 16 ein Tatoo, das ihnen erlaubt Sex zu haben. Sie werden von der Werbung/Regierung so beeinflusst, dass das für sie ein extrem wichtiges Datum ist dem sie entgegenfiebern. Die Werbung beeinflusst sie dann auf die Art, dass sie sich entsprechend kleiden und benehmen.
NIna ist die Hauptprotagonistin in dieser Geschichte, sie ist allerdings nicht ganz so überschäumend begeistert von dem Termin ihres 16. Geburtstages.
"They don't call it "sex-teen" for nothing. We're all supposed to be excited about sex and willing to do whatever with practically any guy who asks. But the whole sex thing was definitely not what i wanted."
Ihre Freundin Sandy dagegen kann es kaum abwarten, 16 zu werden und benimmt und kleidet sich so, wie es in der Werbung vorgeschlagen wird. Sandy und Nina gehören in die Kategorie tier-two. Das ist eine der niedrigeren Kategorien. Um aufzusteigen haben die Mädchen die Möglichkeit an einem Programm teilzunehmen, das FeLS heißt.
"Twice a year, a man from the Governing Council's Liaison Department came to select sixteen-year old girls for a training as a Female Liaison Specialist. All tier-one and -two girls - the lowest of the low - were required to fill out applications when they turned fifteen. Upper tier girls never went into FeLS. It wasn't even an option for them. It was the only option for us low-tiers: the government had set up the program so that only the bottom two tiers were eligible."
"A part of me had dreamed about being chosen for FeLS once. The FeLS graduates who came to talk to us at school are all tier five or above. They got good jobs after their FeLS time. I'd figured when I was out of training and making lots of credits. I'd have enough so i could move Ginnie and Dee back to Chicago into a higher-tier place."
FeLS ist nicht das was es zu sein scheint. NIna findet im Laufe des Buches heraus was wirklich hinter dem FeLS Programm steckt.
Nina hat noch eine Schwester Dee genannt. Ihre Mutter wird von ihr einfach Ginnie genannt. Sie ist alleinerziehend. Mehr möchte ich nicht verraten.
Ich fand die Geschichte sehr spannend. Ich werde mir auf jeden Fall auch die Fortsetzung zulegen.
